New Delhi, July 07: Seeking to end the controversy over the delay in clearing Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot's trip to the US, government today said political clearance was given after it became known that he was attending a function to showcase his state's achievements. "There is no controversy," external affairs ministry spokesman told reporters. He said when the first request came for political clearance the information available with the ministry was that he was planning to attend a function of the Indian community abroad. "Simply such functions do not fall under MEA guidelines for presence of Central or state ministers," he said observing later, on fuller investigation on the nature of the function, it was found that it was to show Rajasthan's achievements, with projection of investment and tourism opportunities.
