Security forces `battle` militants south of Pir Panjal
Jammu, July 27: Intensified insurgency in the south of the Pir Panjal range has turned the area into a virtual battlefield, with over 200 people, including more than 70 security personnel, getting killed in militancy-related incidents during the last four months.

In intensified encounters, attacks, bomb explosions and
massacres, 220 people were killed and 272 injured in over 400
militancy-related incidents in Doda, Udhampur, Rajouri,
Poonch, Jammu and Kathua districts in the south of the Pir
Panchal range in Jammu and Kashmir, police sources said here
today.
Of these, 187 people, including 82 militants, 69 security personnel and 36 civilians, were killed and 95 security personnel and 94 civilians wounded in 51 major attacks, the sources said.
Pakistani militants launched fidayeen attacks on police posts and army camps during the period that led to the killing of 45 security personnel and two civilians, including the more recent attacks on the Sunjwan army camp on June 28 and Tanda army camp on July 22, the sources said.
"The militants have increased attacks on security forces and police during the last four months on the directions of their mentors from across the border in the south of the Pir Panjal range," they said. Bureau Report
