Shoot out at Parliament : As it happened
Terrorists attacked the seemingly impregnable fortress, Parliament, on the unfortunate day - December 13, 2001 - with a barrage of grenades, explosives and rifle fire killing several in a bloody assault at the heart of the world`s largest democracy.
Terrorists attacked the seemingly impregnable fortress, Parliament, on the unfortunate day – December 13, 2001 – with a barrage of grenades, explosives and rifle fire killing several in a bloody assault at the heart of the world’s largest democracy.
Terrorists entered the Parliament House in a white ambassador (DL3CJ 1527) with a blaring siren. The car had both Parliament House as well as home ministry stickers and India Habitat Centre stickers.
The car was challenged and chased by ITBP and CRPF personnel forcing the terrorists to turn the car towards entrance No. 1 -- the one used by the VIPs and MPs.
The firing began around 1130 hours and went on for nearly an hour.
Security forces promptly sealed off the entire area and took up positions at different points. The entire complex was cordoned off.
The security personnel immediately cleared the corridors of Parliament House and ministers and others were rushed to safety.
Black Cat commandos, Delhi Police commandos and two battalions of the Army have reach the Parliament House.
Six CRPF personnel and one cameraman are among those injured in the cross-firing. They have been rushed to the hospital.
A live bomb that was lying near gate Number one was diffused.
All the injured are being operated upon at the nearby RML hospital.
Troops deployed at the PM and home minister’s residence.
PM addresses the nation, says it will be an all out war.
