Paddhari, Oct 28: Welcoming the announcement of elections and Supreme Court ruling, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said "conducting polls in one day indicated that situation in the state was peaceful".
He said that the apex court ruling had vindicated BJP's stand for not imposing President's rule in the state.

Addressing a public meeting on the third day of seventh phase of his Gaurav Yatra, Modi said "I am extremely glad that election in the state would give an opportunity to five crore Gujaratis to elect a government of their choice."

"Now that the elections are announced Congress has no other alternative but to go to the people," he said.

The yatra on Monday traversed through Tankara, Dhrol, Paddhari, Lodhika and Kalawad.

Modi further said that the elections would see a fight between "the right and the wrong".

He claimed that Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf wanted a government of his choice in Gujarat and lambasted GPCC president Shankarsinh Vaghela for his recent trip to the US.

He said that it was not just a coincidence that Musharraf also visited US during the Vaghela's visit.

BJP state unit chief Rajendrasinh Rana also addressed the gathering.

Addressing a meeting at Morvi on Sunday, Modi warned those trying to disrupt peace, unity and communal harmony in the state and thwart its development and said that people would not tolerate them any more.

He said that the "power hungry" Congress had also joined hands with pretentious non-secular and fundamentalists elements to defame Gujarat.

The state government would not compromise with the security and safety of the people, he said, adding the overwhelming response to the yatra had given a befitting reply to those trying to defame the state. Bureau Report
