Madurai, June 14: Police today raided three shops owned by senior DMK leader M K Azhagiri and members of his family in the city and conducted a thorough search of the premises amidst tight security.
Police said the raid was conducted as per law though Azhagiri's lawyers said it was a violation, as the judicial magistrate, Vanitha, had refused to entertain their application for search of the premises.
Azhagiri, elder son of DMK chief M Karunanidhi, was arrested on May 21 for his alleged involvement in the conspiracy to murder former DMK minister T Kiruttinan the previous day. Azhagiri's wife, Kanthi, who was present during the search, said police conducted the search with her permission. They took away video records on the function of the release of the book-'Tolkappaia Poonga'(a book written by Karunanidhi), Azhagiri's wedding invitation, some old film songs, and DMK party propaganda songs, she said.
The search started at 9.30 am and continued till 3.12 pm in the presence of revenue officials and Kanthi. Meanwhile, a police official said the search of the premises did not yield anything concrete. "But we have to study the cassettes," he said. Bureau Report
