Mumbai, Dec 03: Navi Mumbai Assistant Commissioner of Police R B Yennam, who was arrested yesterday in connection with the multi-crore fake stamps and stamp paper scam, was remanded to police custody till December 09, sources said. The Economic Offence Wing of Mumbai Police, which arrested Yennam on the charge of connivance with Telgi, produced him before a additional chief metropolitan magistrate this morning.

Yennam, sources said, was posted as senior inspector in the Dharavi unit of the Mumbai Crime Branch in 1998, when he arrested scamster Abdul Karim Telgi's cousin Tabrej Telgi, alongwith alleged fake stamps worth Rs 4 lakh.

Two more persons were arrested along with Tabrej, one of them being Madhav Mutti Devidaga, also known as Madhav MD. He was a close aide of Abdul Karim Telgi.

Yennam, police sources alleged, showed Madhav MD as a witness instead of an accused in the investigation papers of the case and also allegedly did shabby investigations, that led to Tabrej succeeding in securing bail. Tabrej is absconding since then and the sit has not been able to trace him. The sit later moved to court and got Tabrej declared as an "absconder", sources said.

Madhav MD too was absconding for almost an year, but was later arrested by sit, sources said. Bureau Report
