Ganeshotsav 2016: Ganpati Bappa returns to his abode on Ananta Chaturdashi
`Ananta` means eternal and `Chaturdashi` means fourteen.
Mumbai: Lord Ganesha shall return to his abode after spending ten days with his devotees since Chaturthi, on September 5. Maharashtra – the state where Ganeshotsav is one of the most important festivals is all set to bid goodbye to Ganpati Bappa.
Amid chants – “Ganpati Bappa Morya...Pudhchya Varshi Lauar Ya” (Ganpati Bappa, visit us soon next year), Ganpati Bappa is given a grand farewell. Mammoth idols of Lord Ganesha are taken towards the ocean for immersion and devotees gather in large numbers to join the procession.
Besides huge idols worshipped at Pandals organised by various communities (sarvajanik mandals), people, who played host to Ganpati Bappa for ten days, also join in to do send him to his abode.
Ananta Chaturdashi holds great significance. ‘Ananta’ means eternal and ‘Chaturdashi’ means fourteen. It falls on the fourteenth day of the 'Shukla Paksha' of the Bhadrapada month according to the Hindu calendar.
