Bangalore, May 28: American digital wireless firm Qualcomm has set up a ‘chipset’ research and development centre in Hyderabad and plans to reach a "three digit" workforce in one year. "The chipset R&D centre in Hyderabad started one-and-half months ago," Qualcomm director, Business Development Brian Dunphy said at the launch of Tata Indicom's ‘push-to-talk’ services built on Qualcomm's technology platform. Qualcomm has developed the Code Division Multiple Access technology used for Wireless in Local Loop (WLL) phones that has been deployed in millions by Reliance, Tata and BSNL in India.
Dunphy declined to specify investments or the existing workforce at the Hyderabad centre, but said, "it would reach three digits by the year end”.
The American telecom technology giant is also finalising plans to set up a "engineering support centre" in either Hyderabad or Pune. The Indian centre would be the fifth support centre of Qualcomm after San Diego, China, Korea and Japan. Bureau Report
