Gangtok, Nov 16: Sikkim government has constituted a committee to look into complaints of sexual harassment of women in workplaces as per a Supreme Court order. The three-member committee comprises Tashi Wangmu Sherpa, inspector, state labour department, Kalpana Pradhan, president of the NGO Sankalp and Gayatri Bhutia who heads the NGO Udusha, a press release said here today.

The committee would look into complaints of sexual harassment of women including service beneficiaries, patients, students, customers, clients, passengers, guests, lawyers, independent professionals, members of the judiciary, self-employed women as well as women employed in free trade zones, special economic zones and multinational corporations, the release said. The apex court in its order on August 13, 1997 had asked state governments to constitute such committees.
