A soldier attached to a military intelligence unit was
taken out of a bus and shot dead in day light, a local
official in Batticaloa, 300 kilometres east of here said by
telephone.
Another colleague escaped with injuries. The killing came as Tamil Tigers charged that Sri Lankan troops were behind the killing of several of their cadres in Batticaloa and warned that the murders placed the Norwegian-backed peace process in jeopardy.
