New Delhi, July 27: In a bid to accelerate foodgrain exports, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today called upon the farmers to reduce cost of production and become more competitive in the world market. "Many countries in the world are experiencing food shortages but they want to buy at low prices. Now that I am meeting you personally, I advise to you to reduce cost of production to become more competitive," Vajpayee told farmers who gathered at his residence to thank him for reducing interest on agricultural loans.
He said the government will arrange remunerative prices for the farmers in the international grain market but input costs then must be reduced.
Vajpayee said the world is surprised that from a grain importing country, India has now become an exporter. It sends grains to a number of countries. Bureau Report
