Mexico City, Aug 16: Top Mexican carrier AeroMexico said on Friday that it had canceled six flights between Mexico and New York after the largest power failure in North American history threw parts of the United States and Canada into darkness.
Some 1,000 passengers were affected by the flight cancellations, AeroMexico said yesterday.
The airline suspended five flights on Thursday and Friday between Mexico City and New York and one flight from the northern industrial city of Monterrey scheduled to fly to the Big Apple. AeroMexico said it was still unclear whether it could begin flying to the eastern seaboard of the United States this weekend and declined to say how much money the company may have lost because of the cancellations. ''We do not have an estimate of the possible losses. We won't know until the situation is over,'' AeroMexico spokesman Mario Maraboto said.
