New Delhi, Dec18: The arrest of Polaris Software labs CEO Arun Jain in Indonesia over a commercial dispute today had its echo in the Lok Sabha with BJP members seeking government's intervention to ensure his release. Raising the issue during the zero hour, Shivraj Singh Chauhan (BJP) said Jain had been arrested on "false" charges and that he being an Indian national, the prestige of the country was involved.
Demanding his immediate release, Singh, supported by other BJP members, recalled that then chairman of union carbide corporation, who was charged in the Bhopal gas tragedy case, could not be arrested in the United States.
N N Krishnadas (CPI-M) and P C Thomas (Kerala Cong-M) wanted the measures announced by the Prime Minister for drought relief should be extended to Kerala where 40 talukas had been affected.
