Paris, July 22: Flush with success from last year's experiment in bringing the beach to the city, Paris lures sun-worshippers to the banks of the River. The familiar looking banks of Paris' River Seine, have taken on an unfamiliar feature, a beach. After the runaway success of the French capital's first artificial beach last year, authorities have again dumped three tonnes of sand alongside three kilometres of the river. Organisers have also trucked in all the beach accoutrements one could hope for. Sun lounges, ice cream stalls, and sand building competitions -- amateurs need not apply. But what French beach would be complete with out a game of Boules.
The Mayor of Paris thought of the idea to give people who don't get a proper beach holiday a chance to experience the feel of sand between their toes for the next month. Last year it attracted 2.3 million people. This year the beach has three times as much sand and looks like pulling an even bigger crowd.

There is water nearby but swimming in the Seine is banned due to the dangerous currents. The rule will make sure these cool Parisians don't get carried away.
