The judicial enquiry, announced by the Gujarat government to investigate the Sabarmati Express train attack at Godhra, would also cover the communal riots across the state that took place in the aftermath of the incident. Talking to mediapersons in Ahmedabad on Tuesday, Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said the judicial probe would cover all aspects related to Godhra incident and also the violence which erupted thereafter in parts of the state.
Godhra incident was not communal violence but an act of terrorism, Modi said. To a query, he said the demand for compensation to Sabarmati train victims was made by Godhra MLA Rajendra Patel in the state assembly on February 27 and it was accepted according to the set norms.
The compensation to victims of communal violence was given as per the state government resolution of 1992 which prescribes a sum of Rs one lakh in case of death, Modi said.
He, however, dismissed allegations that discrimination was being made while paying compensation.
