Dehra Dun, Oct 05: Thirty-eight silver coins with Arabic inscriptions and dating back to 10th century were recovered from some children who found them while playing in a locality here, police said today.
"We have recovered 38 silver coins which are believed to be a thousand year old from some children," Superintendent of Police G S Martolia said.
He said the children found coins of different denominations kept in an urn at Khurbara Mohalla when they were playing cricket.
Found in a ditch at a piece of land, the coins were initially equally distributed among the children but police later got information and recovered them from the kids, Martolia said.
He said coins belong to the period between ninth and 21 hijri and added that they would be sent to Archaeological Survey of India for verification of dates
