Aug 22: Emilee Klein birdied the last three holes to take a two-stroke lead after the first round of the LPGA Wachovia Classic on Thursday. Klein, who is chasing her fourth career title, shot a six-under-par 66 to pull clear of Meg Mallon, Carin Koch, Dawn Coe-Jones, Soo-Yun Kang and Sunny Lee.
The biggest surprise of the first round was the performance of Lee, who played on the Korean tour from 1996 to 2001, missed the cut in all 20 events she entered in 2002 and is in search of her first LPGA victory.
Lee got to five under before bogeying the 18th hole.
Mallon, with 14 career victories, is the biggest name in the chasing pack.

But defending champion Si Re Pak is not out of contention, having finished with a 70.
