United Nations, Oct 15: The United States has vetoed an Arab resolution condemning a security barrier Israel is building across part of Palestinian territory in the West Bank. "This resolution failed to address both sides of the larger security context of the Middle East, including the devastating suicide attacks that Israelis have had to endure for the past three years," US ambassador John Negroponte said killing the resolution last night, which was supported by 10 of the 15 members of the Council.
The Arabs rejected its alternative draft which called on all parties involved to dismantle terrorist networks.
"The resolution put forward today was unbalanced and did not condemn terrorism in Explicit terms."
Britain, Cameroon, Germany and Spain had abstained. Bureau Report
