Multan, Sept 10: Pakistan's prolific batsman Inzamam-ul Haq was elated at having reached 9,000 one-day runs during first one-day international cricket match against Bangladesh at Multan Cricket Stadium. "It is an honour to complete 9,000 one-day runs and I am happy that I have joined an elite company of one-day batsmen," said Inzamam, who led Pakistan to a 137-run win yesterday.
Leading the run-getting list is India's Sachin Tendulkar with 12,219 runs after 314 matches, followed by countryman Mohammad Azharuddin, with 9,378 in 334 matches, and Sri Lankans Aravinda De Silva (9,284 in 308 matches) and Sanath Jayasuriya (9,126 in 307 matches). But with only 291 matches under his belt, Inzamam looks good to build on his 9,013 and slide in just behind the legendary Tendulkar.
The 33-year-old local boy hit a match winning knock of 138 to spoil Bangladesh's first ever Test victory bid in last week's final Test on the same ground. "We batted well in this one-day and Yasir Hameed batted superbly, while the rest of work was done by Younis," he said.
Pakistan posted their highest one-day total against Bangladesh with 323-3, earning 116 from Yasir Hameed, 59 not out from Younis and 56 not out from Inzamam.
Bangladesh were bowled out for 186 in a match coach Dav Whatmore conceded his team was completely outclassed.
"Pakistan outclassed us and was better in all the departments. We paid the price for bowling poorly," said Whatmore in his post match comments.
"Hameed played a brilliant innings and we put a bad show while batting." The teams take to the pitch in Faisalabad on Friday for the second of the five one-day match series. Bureau Report
