New Delhi, Sept 11: The CBI today submitted to the Supreme Court a two-volume report of its inquiry into the alleged involvement of "high and mighty" of Uttar Pradesh government in the irregularities and malpractices committed in the Rs 175 crore Taj heritage corridor project at Agra. After perusing the report briefly, a bench comprising Justice M B Shah and Justice A R Lakshmanan directed CBI to "go after the trail of Rs 17 crore released for the project and find out where it has gone, how it has been spent and who has benefitted".
Without naming anybody, the bench said assets of four persons require immediate verification and gave one week time to the CBI to complete its probe regarding all their "known and unknown assets". The bench said on the basis of evidence collected so far by CBI in the scam, the material appears to be prime facie sufficient to initiate departmental proceedings against the government officials named in the report.
The court had on August 21, on the basis of the interim report of CBI, directed the investigating agency to interrogate four to five important persons involved in the scam and submit the final report by September 11. Bureau Report
