Guwahati, Apr 06: Promising not to allow the Assamese to become a minority in their homeland, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today advocated talks between New Delhi and Dhaka to stop large-scale infiltration from across the border. "This is a very decisive moment in the history of Assam as it is full of problems -- infiltration being the most serious one. We will not allow the Assamese community to be reduced to a minority in their own home," said Vajpayee.

"We assisted Bangladesh to get independence and Bangladeshis should be happy residing in their own country, but it seems they have certain serious problems which are forcing their citizens to infiltrate into our country. This is a very dangerous trend," he added.
The need of the hour, he said, was for both nations to sit together and discuss their problems for arriving at a solution.

"We want to solve this problem and put up a barbed wire fence on the border to safeguard it so that no one should be allowed to come and encroach on our homes," said the Prime Minister. Bureau Report
