Chennai, Oct 08: DMK, an ally of the ruling NDA at the Centre, today demanded repeal of Pota and said the party's proposed 'jail bharo' agitation would press for this among things. "There is no shift in our stand on this. We will stick to our stand," DMK president M Karunanidhi told reporters after a meeting of the party's "podium speakers" here.
He was replying to a question on the statement of the BJP president M Venkahiah Naidu that an amendment should be brought to the Pota to make it obligatory on the part of the state government to accept the recommendations of the Pota review committee. He replied in the negative asked whether any representative of the DMK would meet Congress president Sonia Gandhi during her visit to Chennai on October 10.
He said Congress, CPI, PMK, MDMK and Indian National League had offered 'moral support' to the DMK's agitation. Karunanidhi also demanded the immediate convening of Cauvery River Water Authority meeting by the Prime Minister A B Vajpayee. Bureau Report
