New Delhi, Dec 17: The continued detention of MDMK chief Vaiko under Pota in Tamil Nadu today found focus in the Lok Sabha with a party member charging the state authorities with "punishing" his leader without "any basic reason". Raising the issue during the zero hour, C Krishnan (MDMK) said Vaiko has been now under detention for 156 days.
"No chargesheet has been filed against the genuine and true politician," he said demanding that justice should be given to a sitting member of Parliament.
Krishnan found immediate support from DMK benches and CPI (M) leader Somnath Chatterjee who said while he did not not agree with Vaiko's politics, he was "opposed" to the way he was being treated.
"There has been no trial and he has not been given bail. Pota is being misused," Chatterjee said demanding that the Centre should intervene in the matter.

Responding to the members' concern, Urban Development Minister Ananth Kumar said he would bring the issue to the notice of the concerned department.
