Ahmedabad, July 12: CBI has arrested one more person in connection with the assassination of former Gujarat Home and Revenue Minister Haren Pandya taking the total number of arrests in the case to 13, including that of Hyderabad-based sharpshooter Asghar Ali.
The CBI sleuths yesterday arrested one Mohammed Yusuf Abdul Munir, from Panchpatti locality in Kalupur area of the city after his name was revealed by other accused during interrogation, agency sources said here today.
Munir is alleged to be a "co-conspirator" along with several others accused in Pandya's murder and reportedly played a role in providing weapons to the assailants. Munir was produced before the chief metropolitan magistrate yesterday, who remanded him to judicial custody as CBI did not ask for his police custody, court sources said.
The agency has already collected evidence against him during interrogation of other accused and there was no need for his CBI custody, the source added. Senior BJP leader and former state minister Pandya was shot dead at the Law Garden area on March 26 when he had gone for his morning walk.
The CBI has already slapped Pota against 12 persons, including five hailing from Hyderabad and three local persons.
The conspiracy to kill Pandya was hatched at Old Juma Masjid in the city allegedly under the guidance of one Mufti Sufiyan, who is absconding, and Mulla Kaleem.
Kaleem, a resident of the city has already been arrested by CBI along with two other local persons. Bureau Report
