New Delhi, Sept 03: In a major boost to the opposition BJP in Delhi ahead of the coming assembly polls, over 500 Muslims led by prominent community leaders joined the party at
a public meeting in the communally sensitive Seelampur area of North-East Delhi today.
The Muslims joined the party in the presence of BJP
general secretary Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Delhi BJP president
Madan Lal Khurana at the function organised as part of the
ongoing 'Parivartan Yatra' campaign for the elections.
The members of the minority community were led by prominent local Muslim leaders including Maqsood Ahmed, Haji Yad Illahi and Syed Hussain.
Welcoming them into the party fold, Naqvi said BJP was a "real friend" of Muslims and their "hypocrite friends" have always exploited them for the sake of vote bank.
He said BJP always wanted all sections of the society to join the party and work for national advancement.
Naqvi exhorted the Muslims to "isolate" the fringe elements which were giving a bad name to the community by engaging in terrorist activities and aid "a handful of people should not be allowed to take the credibility of the entire community to ransom".
Earlier, Khurana said any future government of his party in Delhi would work for the progress of all sections.
Naqvi had earlier organised a RSS 'gurudakshina' programme at his former constituency of Rampur in Uttar Pradesh in which hundreds of Muslims had participated.
