Madurai, June 19: A case has been registered against a person hailing from Coimbatore and 12 others for allegedly cheating some AIADMK men in Sivaganga district to the tune of Rs 33.5 lakh. Police said that the man, Balakrishnan, had collected money from 56 AIADMK workers, promising them postings in the housing and electricity boards, industrial investment corporation and also the tourism department.

To buttress his claim that he was close to chief minister Jayalalithaa, as AIADMK cultural secretary since 2001, he showed them photographs he had taken with her in it. He then collected money from the workers.
However, the workers' suspicious were aroused when none of the promised postings materialised, even after several months. They demanded that he either give them the postings or money.

Balakrishnan then absconded.

Police said that the district crime branch had been asked to investigate the case, in which several of his associates, including his wife, are involved.
