Chennai, May 06: Undeterred by the imprisonment of party founder Vaiko under Pota, MDMK today celebrated its tenth anniversary with senior leader and Union Minister M Kannappan asserting that the party would continue to grow "despite claims to the contrary". Addressing a gathering of party workers after hoisting the MDMK flag at the party headquarters here, he said "in the last one decade the party has grown from strength to strength contrary to speculation and claims from certain persons that it will not survive and will be finished."
Kannappan, who is the MDMK treasurer, said the party had embarked on a membership drive and asked party cadres to work tirelessly for its success.
Referring to Vaiko's July 11 arrest, under the anti-terrorist law for speaking in favour of the banned LTTE at a public meeting at Tirumangalam near Madurai on June 29 2002, Kannappan said the day was not far off when the tables would turn against those responsible for his arrest.
He underlined the steps, including a signature campaign, taken to secure the release of Vaiko and have Pota repealed.
Kannappan also inaugurated a blood donation camp at which 200 volunteers donated blood.
