Phnom Penh, Apr 27: Pakistan's Prime Minister Zafarullah Khan Jamali arrived in Cambodia today for a two-day visit to strengthen cooperation between the countries in fighting terrorism and to boost economic relations. Jamali was due to hold talks with Cambodia's Prime Minister Hun Sen later today, followed by the signing of a memorandum of understanding on combating terrorism and transnational crime, according to a foreign ministry statement.
Cambodian and Pakistani officials will also sign an agreement to help promote and protect investment between the two countries.
"This is the first visit by a Pakistani Prime Minister to Cambodia. The visit is also the first step toward enhancing relations between the two countries," said Hor Namhong, Cambodia's foreign minister.
Jamali's visit to Cambodia is part of a nine-day tour that also includes stops in Laos, Thailand, China, and Hong Kong. All three countries are members of the 10-country Association of South-East Asian nations, or ASEAN.
Before departing Pakistan last week, Jamali expressed hope for his country to be included in the ASEAN Regional Forum, or ARF, this year.
ARF is a security forum between ASEAN and 13 dialogue partners from Asia, the pacific and the West, including China, Japan, Russia and the United States.
