Kathmandu, May 02: The United States has included Nepal's Maoist rebel outfit among the 38 organisations identified as "other terrorist organisations" worldwide. "The activities of the Maoist organisation are under the close scrutiny and observation of the State Department," said US ambassador to Nepal Michael E Malinowski.

"They have a responsibility to prove in action and commitment that they are not terrorists and that they will fully honour their commitment for peace," the US ambassador told a leading English daily here. The US government has named 36 terrorist groups as foreign terrorist organisations, including among others al Qaeda, al Jihad and Harkat ul-Mujahideen.

Irish Republic Army, Sipah-Sahaba, Jamait-ul-Muajhideen, al Badhr Mujahideen are among the 38 "other terrorist organisations" as categorised by the State Department in its annual report on "patterns of global terrorism" released yesterday.
