Vadodara, July 08: A team of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), that has termed the acquittal of 21 accused in Best Bakery case by a special court as a "miscarriage of justice", would arrive here today to inquire into the circumstances in which they were acquitted, official sources said here today. The three-member team would examine the records of the case and examine the judgement and the commission would decide its future course of action after it gets the report.

The NHRC chairman Justice A S Anand had stated that the state government must appeal against the verdict to "re-establish its creditability" and added that the commission would "provide all
assistance to whoever wanted it". Additional sessions Judge H U Mahida on June 27, had acquitted all the 21 accused as the prosecution failed to prove the case. Twelve persons were charred to death in the Best Bakery on March 01 last year in the aftermath of Godhra train carnage of February 27 last year.

The local advocates have already filed a contempt of court petition against NHRC and its Chief A S Anand for using words "miscarriage of justice" by Anand for the verdict in the Best Bakery case. Bureau Report
