Washington, May 13: Congratulating the winning Congress party in India's elections, the Bush administration said it would keep encouraging India and Pakistan to settle their differences through diplomacy. That approach reflects the desires of the people of the two countries for peace, state department spokesman Richard Boucher said.
``We've had excellent relations with India and we look forward to continuing those relations,'' Boucher said while praising India's democratic process.
Boucher congratulated the Congress Party, noting that the United States had dealt with it for a half century and he praised Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee for accepting election results.
``Once again, we are shown how strong and how deep are the roots of Indian democracy in this matter,'' he said.
