Governor suggests DF govt to hand over stamp-paper scam to CBI
Mumbai, Nov 19: Maharashtra Governor Mohammed Fazal today said he has suggested the Congress-led DF government to hand over the multi-crore counterfeit stamp-paper racket probe to the CBI.
Mumbai, Nov 19: Maharashtra Governor Mohammed Fazal
today said he has suggested the Congress-led DF government to
hand over the multi-crore counterfeit stamp-paper racket probe
to the CBI.
"I have written to the state government that it is
advisable to hand over the stamp-paper racket to the CBI to
clear public perception," he told a select group of reporters
during an interaction at the Raj Bhavan here.
Fazal's statement assumes significance in the backdrop of Shiv Sena-BJP opposition pressing for handing over investigation of the case to the CBI and the state government rejecting it.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde has firmly rejected handing over the case to CBI saying the special investigation team probing the racket was doing an excellent job.
The Governor said he has written to Shinde on November 10 but has not received any positive or negative confirmation from the latter.
Strongly advocating stringent punishment to those involved in the scam, irrespective of the posts held by them, governor said: "in my opinion those indulging in corruption Should be hanged. But it is not possible in the prevailing system. However, I feel that strong punishment which will prove deterrent should be handed over to the guilty."
