Lucknow, Apr 27: Reflecting the tenuous ties between Uttar Pradesh's ruling coalition partners BJP-BSP, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani is likely to hold talks with Chief Minister Mayawati in New Delhi today seeking to smoothen the rough edges in the relationship between the two parties. Mayawati would be visiting Delhi today and she is slated to have a two-hour meeting with Advani, a highly placed source in BJP said here today.

The sources said BJP state president Vinay Katiyar is likely to attend the meeting between Advani and Mayawati. The proposed meeting would come about a day after Advani's Kanpur visit where he is likely to meet a cross section of party workers and leaders to get the feedback from them on the general impact of the BJP-BSP alliance on the saffron party's organisational health in the politically key state.
Relation between the BJP and BSP touched a new low after Mayawati had publically rubbished the statements of senior BJP leaders, including Rajnath Singh and Pramod Mahajan in which they had been critical of her crackdown against Samajwadi Party president Mulayam Singh Yadav. The district presidents and lower level functionaries of BJP complained to senior state leaders that they were being treated as opposition members by officials ostensibly at the behest of BSP leadership.
