Kolhapur, Feb 26: Taking strong exception to the opposition of Congress and Left parties to unveiling of veer Savarkar's portrait in the Central Hall of Parliament, BJP national vice-president Gopinath Munde today threatened to launch a similar agitation over naming schemes and venues after Congress leaders. "If Congress or Left parties oppose the move, we will scrap the names of international airports or port trusts or any schemes perpetuated in the memory of Congress leaders," Munde told a press conference here.
Opposing the unveiling of Savarkar's portrait was against the culture and tradition of the country, he said.
Munde also criticised minority leader Hussain Dalwai, who had allegedly referred to Savarkar as a terrorist.
The BJP leader assailed the DF-government in Maharashtra saying it was merely acting like a caretaker government.
"The Sushilkumar Shinde government is an interim government and a stop-gap arrangement after exit of Vilasrao Deshmukh as the chief minister," he told reporters.
Expressing optimism that BJP-Sena will storm back to power after elections, Munde said the days of DF-government were numbered.
Munde took a dig at Shinde for referring to his Sangharsh Yatra as "communal", saying, "the response that the Yatra has evoked had disturbed the DF-government and hence they are resorting to such statements".
He said the 'Sangharsh Yatra' was aimed at "highlighting" people's grievances before the government so that it took note of those grievances. Bureau Report
