Ahmedabad, Feb 11: Taking strong exception to "western culture invasion", Union minister of state for tourism and cultural affairs Bhavnaben Chikhlia today said
Centre would strictly enforce ban on "discos" in all 5-star ITDC hotels across the country.
Addressing mediapersons here, Chikhalia said "it is sad
that the influence of western culture is gaining ground and it
will be the endeavour of Centre to ensure that the law banning
discos in all five-star hotels of the ITDC is strictly
enforced".
To a question, she said "we (government) wish that even private hotel owners also ban discos and we will appeal to managements to adopt Indian culture in their hotels." She said "right from the entrance of hotels, one should feel the essence of Indian culture".
Denying that the proposed ban would affect foreign tourists, she said "they are eager to know about Indian culture".
Speaking about tourism development in Gujarat, she assured of making efforts to expedite implementation of various Centre-aided schemes for coastal development of the state and forming "tourist circuits" linking religious places in various regions.
