Dhaka, Aug 29: More than 500 people were rendered homeless as their houses were washed away by tidal wave on the island of Kutubdia in Bangladesh. Over 100 houses were washed away leaving about 500 people homeless, the daily star reported today.

Beside Kutubdia, several other coastal islands have also been inundated by the tidal surge making people take refuge in cyclone shelters in the island, the report said. Many coastal embankment and fish cultivation farms were also damaged overflowed by the tidal wave.

Weathermen have cautioned fishermen not to venture into the sea. Bureau Report
