Kozhikode, Nov 04: Indian Union Muslim League, the second largest partner in the ruling Congress-led UDF in Kerala, will strive hard to resolve the political impasse in the front and the Congress, IUML supremo Syed Mohammedali Shihab Thangal said today. "Let us see how things develop but our attempts will be to defuse the crisis at the earliest", Thangal told over phone from his Panakkad residence in neighbouring Malappuram district.

Asked about the telephonic discussions he and AICC president Sonia Gandhi had yesterday, he said the talks were on prevailing political situation in the state and necessary efforts to keep the front intact. Stating that the present crisis gripping the Congress in the state in the wake of ongoing factional feud ought to be resolved soon in the best interests of the ruling coalition, Thangal said the league leadership was in touch with all the alliance partners, including the Congress, in this regard. "Wait and see", he said when asked if the league had worked out any specific formula to resolve the ongoing stalemate.
During their talks, Sonia had reportedly urged Thangal to continue to take the initiative to help resolve the political impasse, while the latter wanted the congress high command to take early steps to end the crisis in the party.

The League has convened a meeting of all the UDF partners barring the Congress in Thiruvananthapuram on November 07 to evolve a formula to solve the problem. Bureau Report
