New Delhi, Mar 11: In a major crackdown against book piracy, police today seized such literature worth Rs three crore in a raid at a godown in north west Delhi and arrested three persons.
Altogether 70,000 pirated books, including some best-sellers like Harry Potter, were recovered when a team of Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of crime branch raided a godown in Keshavpuram area, deputy commissioner of police, EOW, Dinesh Bhatt told a news agency. Gopal Wadhwany, his son Amit Wadhwany, who publish the books, and Subhash Gupta, their distributor, were arrested, he said. Police also sealed their two godowns in Daryaganj area of central Delhi from where a large number of pirated books are expected to be recovered, Bhatt said.
An offset printing press of Wadhwanys was also seized, he said.
The seized books include fiction, non-fiction, technical and dictionaries.
