Mangalore, Mar 01: Prohibitory orders have been clamped in Puttur near here following tension in the area after a car carrying youths was stoned allegedly by Bajrang Dal activists, police said today. Some activists of Bajrang Dal allegedly pelted stones at the car yesterday in which eight youths, including four women, belonging to two different communities were travelling, they said.

As many as 16 Dal activists were taken into custody and later produced before a first class judicial magistrate in Mangalore, they added.
Tight security arrangements have been made in the area and anti-riot squads from Karnataka state reserve police and district armed reserves have been deployed, police said.

The prohibitory orders will be in force till the morning of March 3, they said.
