Srinagar, May 29: Police today detained nine activists of Muslim Khawateen Markaz, a constituent of Hurriyat Conference, when they tried to take out a protest demonstration here against alleged human rights violations in Jammu and Kashmir. The activists of MKM gathered at Lal Chowk, carrying placards and raising slogans, and were proceeding towards the local office of the UN observers group for India and Pakistan at Sonawar when police swung into action and detained nine of them, official sources said. Other activists, however, mingled with the commuters, the sources said. All nine activists of the women's organisation were lodged at Kothibagh police station, they said.
The activists were also raising slogans demanding release of their president Zamrooda Habib, who was arrested by Delhi Police earlier this year for allegedly receiving funds from Pakistan high commission. Bureau Report
