New Delhi, May 24: In the wake of induction of some of its senior office-bearers in the Union cabinet, a revamp in the AICC set up is on the cards "soon" to enable the Congress Party to play a supportive role to the United Progressive Alliance government. "Congress president Sonia Gandhi has already indicated about revamp and changes in the AICC set up. Some senior leaders have moved to government and many have preferred to work for the party. There is a possibility for a such a revamp in the coming days," party spokesman Anand Sharma told reporters here.
Asked how soon these changes were likely to be effected, he said "soon".
Sharma said since there was a Congress-led government at the Centre now, organisational changes were expected to be in such a way that the party play a supportive role to the government in the days to come and help fulfil the aspirations of the people as promised in the Congress manifesto.
"The changes in the organisation will focus on the implementation of programmes promised in the party manifesto," he said.
While AICC general secretary Ambika Soni declined a ministerial offer and preferred to work for the party, two other general secretaries Kamal Nath and Oscar Fernandes have been inducted into the union cabinet.
There were over half-a-dozen secretaries in the AICC who contested the Lok Sabha polls but all of them lost except Subodh Kant Sahay who has now become a minister of state in the Manmohan Singh government.
