Four persons, suspected to be members of Dawood Ibrahim gang, have been arrested in Hyderabad for their role in the abduction of a Kolkata-based businessmen for ransom in a joint operation by the city police and a team of West Bengal CID sleuths. The youth, in the age group of 31 to 39 years belonging to the old city, were arrested on Friday for their involvement in the kidnap of Satyaprasad Roy Burman, director of the Khadim's group of companies, the city police commissioner P Ramulu said on Saturday. Burman was whisked by abductors from Salt Lake in Kolkata on July 25 last after opening fire at him.
After prolonged negotiations, the victim's family had paid Rs three crore ransom to the kidnappers and secured his release. Based on a complaint filed by the businessman's brother Siddhartha Roy Burman, the West Bengal and city police launched a joint operation and nabbed four persons identified as Abdul Kareemuddin, Khaja Altaf Ahmed Qureshi, Mahboob Ali and Mohammed Ishaq, the commissioner said in a release.
The arrested youth confessed to their involvement in the abduction and revealed that the ransom money was routed to the main abductor Identified as Shafiq alias Raju and was suspected to be a member of Dawood Ibrahim gang, in Dubai through hawala channels.
