Mumbai, July 25: Police were verifying reports in
a section of the media suggesting that Humayun Kaskar, younger
brother of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, has sneaked into
India from Pakistan with a view to surrender himself before
the authorities.
"We are examining these reports but so far we have no
definite information on Humayun's entry into India", Satyapal
Singh, Joint Police Commissioner, said here today.
Reports in a section of the media said Humayun had come
to India via Nepal and was planning to surrender before the
authorities. The reports also said that Dawood was planning to
send his brothers to India one by one as he himself was facing
threat to his life from the local Mafia of Pakistan.
A senior crime branch official told a news agency that reports
reaching the police here revealed that a shopping Centre in
Karachi belonging to Dawood's Lieutenant Tiger Memon had been
bombed recently and that two persons had been injured in the
explosion. The targets were Tiger Memon and Dawood Ibrahim but
both of them were not present at the time of the blast.
Dawood has earned the wrath of the local Mafia and is
keen to move out of Pakistan but ISI would not let him go off
so easily, the police official said.
Dawood has planned to send his brothers to India by turn to take care of the alleged illegal properties worth crores of rupees. Most of them are in south Mumbai and the price of the real estate in this area is very high, the official said.
On February 28, Dawood's youngest brother Iqbal was deported to India from Dubai. He was arrested and is facing the charge of conspiracy to murder a customs officer.
