Powermen calls off stir in Bihar
Patna, July 27: Powermen restored electricity to MLAs` residences this evening and called off their proposed move for snapping power supply to the state capital, especially to the state assembly, tomorrow after an assurance from the energy minister that RJD MLA Suresh Passi who allegedly beat up two power board staff last night would be dealt with according to the law.

The decision to call off the agitation was taken after a talk with the energy minister Shakeel Ahmed Khan and his deputy Shayam Razak, Powermen Engineering Service Association (PESA) general secretary B L Yadav and general secretary of Bihar Vidhyut Kamgar Union Devki Rai told reporters.
They said the two ministers along with the Bihar State Electricity Board (BSEB) secretary Deepak Kumar Singh and other senior officials visited the 'MLA flat power sub-station', where the workers were holding their meeting and requested them to end their stir.
The ministers assured the powermen that they would take up the matter of Passi beating up staff with the Chief Minister Rabri Devi and also raise the issue in the state assembly, Rai said. He said the ministers also assured the powermen that they would request the chief minister to provide armed security to the electricity board staff who were targetted by the legislators and other consumers over power cuts and urged the power board staff to call off the stir in the larger interest of the common man.
Passi could not be contacted after an FIR was lodged at the Kotwali Police Station against him and his supporters in connection with the incident, police said.
