New Delhi, Dec 13: For the second time in less than a fortnight, business collapsed in both the houses of Parliament today in the absence of quorum in the post-lunch session leading to their adjournment till Monday. The quorum bells were pressed in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha during private members' business.
A similar situation was witnessed last weekend when the two houses were discussing such resolutions on Thursday, since Friday was a holiday on account of Eid festival. As attendance was thin with members in a holiday mood, business collapsed leading to early adjournment.
In the Lok Sabha today, the quorum issue was raised by Congress members including K A Sangtam when Prahlad Singh Patel (BJP) refused to withdraw his resolution for banning cow slaughter.
Despite repeated assurances by minister of state for agriculture Hukumdeo Narayan Yadav that government would take necessary action on the issue after consultations with states, the member refused to yield.
With Patel unrelenting, the quorum issue was raised and ultimately the House had to be adjourned.
In Rajya Sabha, there were hardly 20 members present when the House re-assembled after lunch to resume discussion on a private members' resolution moved by V.Raghavan (CPI) on the disinvestment policy.
Last week also, the resolution could not be discussed as the House was adjourned on similar grounds. Bureau Report
