Dhaka, Aug 07: A bundle of fake 500 taka notes was found in the Bangladesh bank, the Central Bank, ironically on the day it declared a country-wide alert following increasing detection of counterfeit notes. The day the Bangladesh Bank distributed alert posters on fake notes, a bundle of taka 500 fake notes crept out of its own vault yesterday, the 'Daily Star' said today.

The bundle was detected by a fake note detecting machine when it was being readied for distribution to mercantile banks.

Incidents of seizure of fake notes from different parts of the country, including in the border areas had increased in recent times. "The spectre of forged notes that has kept people on their toes has finally invaded the secured territory of the Bangladesh bank pushing currency users into greater dilemma than ever before", leading economic daily 'Financial Express' said commenting on the incident.
