Sriganganagar, Nov 1: The army would remove the landmines laid out in the border towns of Rajasthan and Punjab before returning to barracks, the GOC-in-command Major General R N Suryavanshi said today. Talking to reports informally here, Suryavanshi said that the Union Government had compensated the farmers whose fields were occupied by the army units.

On a question, he said, he would look into the matter of non-payment of compensation supposed to be expedited by now and get it done at the earliest.
During a recent army exercise, altogether 59 intruders were nabbed trespassing the borderline, he added.
