The International Cricket Council (ICC) appointed their first Umpires and Referees manager to support the newly created 13-strong elite international panel of match officials. An ICC statement said Chris Kelly, a 44-year-old teacher and English county cricket umpire, will "manage, mentor and coach" the five match referees and eight umpires appointed as part of the sport's attempts to improve standards.

"I am delighted to welcome Chris to our team at the ICC," said ICC chief executive Malcolm Speed.

"I have every confidence that he will prove to be an invaluable asset to our match officials as international cricket embarks on new era of full time professional umpires and referees." Bureau Report
