Two militants were killed and a civilian was injured in a gunfight with security forces in Badgam district of central Kashmir on Saturday, a police spokesman said in Srinagar.
The encounter took place when troops of Rashtriya Rifles cordoned off Lawaypora village in Beerwah area following specific information about presence of some militants, the spokesman said.
The militants, finding themselves trapped, opened fire on the Army search parties and in the ensuing gunfight two militants were killed. A civilian was injured when he was caught in the shootout, the spokesman said.
He said some arms and ammunition were recovered from the killed militants, whose identity is being established.
Meanwhile, unidentified militants ransacked the house of one, Mohammad Yousuf Rather, after he refused to give them shelter at Shopian in Pulwama district of south Kashmir on Friday night.
The militants also damaged windowpanes and fired in air. No one was injured. Later, the militants escaped, the spokesman said. Bureau Report
