Mumbai, Mar 07: CMC Ltd, a Tata group company, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the government of Afghanistan to set up an Information Technology-based infrastructure in the war-ravaged country. "The government of Afghanistan has selected CMC as a technology partner and we will actively get involved in its nation building process," CMC deputy managing director and chief operating officer R Ramanan said today. Under the MoU signed in the presence of Afghan President Hamid Karzai in New Delhi on Thursday, CMC will help the country computerise government offices, apart from helping it to put e-governance system in place, he added.
"We will undertake both short and long-term projects in the country, ranging from two months to five years," he said. A core team from CMC would be visiting the war-torn nation, while an expert team from the country is also expected to visit the company "soon".
Talking about the funding from the afghan government, Ramanan said a business plan was yet to be formulated. As the nation was being funded by various agencies and countries, including UN, payment wouldn't be an issue. Tata group is also providing financial and other assistance including improvement of transportation infrastructure in that country, he added.
